Problems, Problems...

Yesterday I told you about my new page Ads, Just Ads.
Well, it doesn't seem to be going the way I planned. I have the first post with no problem, I can get some images to show as long as they are not JavaScript. They will show in the Sidebar, but not in Comments, which is where I had planned on putting NEW Ads Daily.
If anyone has ANY IDEA how to get the JavaScript Images to show in comments on Blogger, PLEASE contact me...
This is important because most of the Ads I intend to use are JavaScript. It's hard to lay out a page if I can't get the images to show...
Thanks for any response.

A New Approach to Making Money on the Internet

I am trying something New today. I already have links on this page that are related to Working at Home, on the Internet and Computer Enhancement.
I am starting a New Page that is Ads, Just Ads. It will be broken down into catagories, i.e. Computers and Components, Sports Equipment, etc. The reasoning behind this is to Make Money on the Internet. No trying to trick people into responding to ads, just straight forward Advertising.
Hopefully, this approach will attract people who Actually are Looking for something to Buy.
If you want to Advertise on this Page, or have an Affiliate Link you would like included, Please E-Mail details of your requirements.
Of course, there will be a link here to the New Site...Ads, Just Ads.

High Speed Internet?

I have investigated using a High Speed Internet Service recently. I checked out Comcast (cable), and Verizon (DSL). The reason I looked into these two is we already have basic service with both.

Comcast is ridiculous...

They offer $19.95 for the first 6 months if you already have cable in your house. After that it goes up to $45.95 a month. This is above and beyond my basic cable bill. All equipment is extra (prices vary depending on what you need). If you don't have the basic cable, the pricing is $59.95 a month plus equipment and installation. Make sure your computer is compatible with the service, you may need to upgrade your Memory, Processor speed, or get additional cards (ie. USB or Ethernet). You also have to use their Home Page and E-mail. The only advantage is the high speed is up to 6Mbps.

Verizon is a lot cheaper...

They start at $14.95 per month for 768Kbps with an option of getting a wireless router to add up to 4 additional computers for a one time fee of $19.95. You can get up to 3Mbps for $19.95 for months 2-3 and $29.95 months 4-12. These 2 need a contract for 1 year and require Verizon phone service. The third option is Month to Month, $37.95 per month.

All Three are Free for the First Month. Any equipment is included in the service, however if you need any add-on's inside your computer, that is up to you (ie. USB or Ethernet cards). The Biggest Drawback for me is availibility... It's not availible in my area yet, even though I already have the phone service. The excuse is there needs to be a Routing Station within 18,000 FEET of my house (around 3 miles). They don't know when it will be availible.

I don't make enough money with my computer to justify Cable, and there is NO Router Station close enough to me for DSL.

So, at this point I will just SUFFER with DIAL-UP.

Networking

Ways to Find Ways to Make Money Blogging:

One of the best ways I found to get new ideas on Making Money Online and Working at Home, is to Network. Get your Name out there.

Join a Forum like The Work at Home Forum. There I found sites such as ProBlogger, Network Marketing Inspiration Blog, ClickBank, AdSense, and Chitika to name a few.

Some are very informative, and still others are direct links to sites from which you can Make Money.

You can also brouse through Blogs, or do an internet search for companies that have related subject matter. See what they use for ads, see if it would be compatible with your site.

There are always other opitions out there, you may find something that you like.

Free Spaces Web Hosting:

I tried Free Spaces after my last post. It is very easy to use.
First, I saved my Hometown at AOL homepages (all 5) on my computer as .htm files. When they are saved the main template is saved as .htm, all of the .gif, .jpg, and links etc. are saved as files automatically (in Windows).
After that all you need to do is upload files to the Free Spaces site.
Next, there is WYSIWYG for editing your page. There you place whatever you uploaded wherever you want. There are tabs for each step, to make it easy for you to follow.
Once you have your page the way you want, you have to save it as index.html, this becomes your new Home Page. Mine is http://mcbsconsulting.freespaces.com/index.html .
You can name other pages whatever will be easiest for you to identify.
There are some limitations on uploads, space, and bandwidth in the free hosting, however, unless you need more than 50,000 kb of space this won't be a problem. If you do need more, all you have to do is contact them. (I only use about 2% for all 5 pages).
If none of this makes any sense to you, Contact me. Or you can have your question posted here in order to share the answer.

Domain Names and Web Hosing

Finding Domain Names and Web Hosting:

In my search for availible Domain Names, I found that they all have Free Look-up. Some will register your Domain for a fee, others will add your "Domain" to their site. In that case you get not much more than a Forward to your Web site and a Forward for your E-mail.

Here is a short list (with links):

1. allwhois.com- Free Look-up- links you to MarkMonitor.com for Global registration for a fee.

2. allwhois.net- Free Look-up- $9.95 to register.

3. Domain Bank- Free Look-up- links you to their Shopping Cart to pick which extention you want to buy.

This is a list of some you register through their site for Free (with links):

1. Your Name Free- Free Look-up- Web Page forwarding, E-mail forwarding- Need your own Web Host.

2. Free Domain- Free Look-up- Web Page forwarding- will upgrade service for a fee-Need you own Web Host.

3. Dynu.com- Free Look-up- Web Page forwarding, E-mail forwarding- Need your own Web Host.

Web Hosting is something completely different. Some will help you create your Web page, others you need to create you own.

The list (including links):

1. Net Benefit- Free Look-up- Web Hosting through the U.K.- 79 British Pounds per year.

2. Page Space- Web Hosting- U.S.- $19.95 per month and up- Need Domain Name.

3. Free Spaces- No Look-up- Sign up for availibility- Free Web Hosting- Upload your own Web pages. (My Choice)

You can check out any or all of these sites to see if anything fits your needs.
(I have signed up with Free Spaces myself, since I will be dropping Hometown on AOL).

Working at Home Asks for Questions

If you are wondering what all the previous post have to do with Working at Home...a LOT.

This is all about improving one's lot in life by having a Home Based Business on the Internet. Whether it is advertising your products or services, or a full blown ad campaign, it still takes dedication and investigation. Everything presented on this site is related to Internet Business, a lot of which is usually conducted from the Home.

Your feedback is not only appreciated, but necessary to give you the best information possible. What works for me, will not work for everyone. Which is why your questions are important.

I found a new link that is in the sidebar for ProBlogger which I found very informative. Credit given, that's where I got the IDEA to ask you directly for your Questions.

So if I wander too far from the Work at Home topic, let me know, and I will try to keep things in perspective. I will also keep posting any new topics that I come across.

Thanks for your feedback.

Questions and Answers:

I have endeavored to give advice on Working at Home. I have also tried to give as many Informative Links on the subject as possible. The one thing that is missing is YOUR QUESTIONS.
What I would like to do at this point is ASK FOR YOUR QUESTIONS ABOUT WORKING AT HOME!
This is not intended to be a forum, but to give pertinent information to anyone who is interested. If I don't have the answer, I can either find one for you or direct you to a link that will help in your quest to be SUCCESSFUL in a HOME BUSINESS.
ALL QUESTIONS and ANSWERS WILL BE POSTED (unless otherwise specified).
There is a Link for Visitor Feedback, which goes directly to my E-Mail, in Comments below any Post, and my Direct E-mail is in the Profile at the bottom of the sidebar.
I hope to make this site more interesting by including YOUR QUESTIONS.

Getting ready for the Holidays:

If you watch any TV, you're probably as tired of the Holiday Ads as I am. That's not good since Thanksgiving is still TWO DAYS away. Most of them started BEFORE Halloween.
The reason I bring this up is Working at Home on the Internet is more difficult because NOW you have to COMPETE with ALL the SPAM, and HOLIDAY ADS. It is difficult enough to get YOUR MESSAGE OUT without having your customers inundated with unwanted junk.
You have to walk a fine line between selling your product and having your prospects tune out. How you do that is something only you can know. You know your customers better than I. If you have a product that is seasonal, you have to adjust. You may run Off-Season Sales, but selling garden rakes is difficult when it is snowing.
I think your best bet is to stick with whatever sales campaign you have in place. You never know, you may find that people are just looking for your product and will buy what they need when they need it.

Wishing you the Best of Luck

Your Ideal Home Office

Excerpt from the Work at Home Forum
"Creating an ideal home office environment"

Author: Vishal P. Rao (Administrator)

This is an example of the type of information available at the Work at Home Forum. There are also discussion groups where you can ask questions YOU may have.

When creating your home office, you need to make sure that it is comfortable, well lit and convenient. Therefore, it is important that you purchase the furniture and accessories that are most desirable to you. After all, you will be working in the office, so it should be inviting, pleasant and appealing to you.

Some of the items listed below will help you turn your office into a place that is comfortable, attractive and an ideal working place.

Plants – One or more plants are great to keep in your office, as they help to clean the air and provide oxygen in your working space. Furthermore, plants and flowers are pleasant to look at and provide you with a sense of serenity.

Good lighting – Having proper lighting in your office will help to reduce eyestrain and will make you feel more alert and motivated when working. If it is at all possible, it is a good idea to make your office in a room that has a window, as the best lighting is always natural light. However, even if you have a window there will be times when you will work at night or perhaps early in the morning before dawn. Therefore, having a desk lamp, as well as a bright overhead light can make all of the difference and help you stay focused when working.

Comfortable seating – Make sure the office chair you select is supportive and is comfortable to sit in. The best type of chair to purchase is one that is ergonomic, and adjustable.

Pictures – Whether it is pictures of your family, pets or beautiful landscapes and scenery, etc., pictures add atmosphere to the walls of your room, and are always pleasant and welcoming to look at.

Color – Did you know that color has an effect on your mood? For this reason, the color of your office matters. Light, cheerful colors, particularly light blue, are calming and make your office space an ideal place to work. Painting or pasting wallpaper that is dark or full of wild designs can make you feel overwhelmed, depressed, stressed or distracted.

Music – Having a stereo, mini radio or sound system on your computer may also be something you will find, calming and pleasant. While some people work better in complete silence, others find silence to be uncomfortable and would prefer to have low, easy listening music on as background noise.

Aside from the above mentioned suggestions, you should also keep in mind that where you place your furniture in your office is important. The reason is because if you don’t position your furniture in an orderly manner, you may not have convenient access to the equipment you need.

For instance, if you have a phone in your office, you should keep it on or near your desk so you can reach it easily without having to get up and interrupt you work.

An ideal home office environment is one that you feel relaxed and content in. The object is to make your working area one that is free of distractions but is organized and peaceful.

I hope you found this informative.

Good Luck

Lack of Concentration:

It's Sunday, and my concentration is on FOOTBALL. So, it's not a good day to try Working at Home. It's hard enough to think of something to write about regarding Home Business and the Trials and Tribulations thereof. When I can actually concentrate, sometimes something of worth is put into words.
This is one of the things I usually insist on, keep your mind on what you are doing. Keep distractions to a minimum. I guess that's why they have commercials during a game.
So, I will find something good to write about tomorrow.
Sorry...

Maintainence Day:

One thing that some people forget is the maintainence of their computer. Unless they run into a problem, most people don't do much more than log in to the computer and start working.

Of course if you have a Tech on premise then you don't have to worry about it too much. However, most of us Working at Home, don't have that luxury. Therefore, the maintainence falls upon YOU.

You should have an Antivirus running real-time whenever you are online. You should also have a Firewall to block unwanted access. Any program such as Spybot, Adbot, etc should be used to block unwanted Spyware and other tracking type infestation. These steps should aleviate most of the problems you will encounter.

Remember to UPDATE all of these programs. Updates are usually included FREE of CHARGE with any reputable program on the internet. Immunize and update definitions at the same time. Also, DO NOT FORGET to RUN the PROGRAMS AFTER you UPDATE. New viruses, etc are being written everyday, so this is a very important step.

At this time, you can also take the time to update drivers for your computer, this could enhance speed and reliability of installed hardware.

Best of Luck...

The Best Laid Plans

As we all know, planning is one of the MOST IMPORTANT aspects of a SUCCESSFUL BUSINESS.

The main thing is trying to stick to your plan. The second most important is knowing when to deviate (just a little).

When you run into something that needs addressing at that particular moment, DEAL with IT, just don't get sidetracked too much. Once the problem is corrected, get back to the plan.

You must also know that if (when) something cannot be done at that particular time, don't just give up. Put it further down the list to see if it can be done at a later date.

You should also REVIEW and REVISE your list as needed (don't worry, the list will never end). You will always find something else to add to the list, which means you were probably SUCCESSFUL in what needed to be done.

So, KEEP the list, REVIEW the list, and REVISE the list. BUT, the MOST IMPORTANT is to have a BUSINESS PLAN TO START WITH...

Good Luck with YOUR venture...

The Power of Asking...

As they say, "you never know until you ask". Yesterday I sent an E-Mail to Chitika support asking if there is a way to have checks sent directly to me rather than PayPal. I got three (3) Responses in my inbox today. Each was a progress report on my request, the last being CHECKS WILL BE MAILED DIRECTLY TO ME.
So, my original impression of Chitika was mistaken. They manually review applications and support requests. I hope I get that type of response to the ADS.
I'm still early in the process, but if I target the ads (all sponsers) and place them correctly on the page, I hope to get some favorable results.

Good Luck to Us All

Open Mouth Insert Foot...

As you may have noticed, there is an Ad above this enrty. After posting yesterday, I did get an E-Mail from Chitika. Account open, access to codes, etc.
It looks like it will be a good addition to my site. My only consideration at this point, is that they only pay through PayPal. I do have an account with them, but would rather have a Check Sent Directly to ME. I can deal with PayPal, however I would rather other payment options.
The only accounts I have that will send a check directly is ClickBank and AdSense. They are not bad places to start if that is your preference or need.
You can check out any of the options to see for yourself if they would fit your style. I do get paid if you use any of the links provided. (Honesly IS the best policy).

Chitika vs AdSense vs ClickBank

I have heard so much about Google AdSense, I tried it out. Not much sucess there, although they do Target Ads to your readers as advertised. Only one (1) click in a month and a half.
Not too good when you get paid per click.

So then I tried ClickBank, even though I have only had it on my site for around two weeks, Nothing yet.

Next is Chitika Inc, it's supposed to be an eyecatcher therefore more clicks?
I don't know, I applied to them almost a week ago and they STILL haven't replied. They never even sent an acknowledgement! How reliable will will they be on reporting and PAYMENT?

Maybe, I just don't get enough hits on my site, but at least the First Two responded quickly to my signup. The Latter, to date, has not.

This shows me two important things:
1. NO ad will make you money if you don't get the visits to your site.
2. Choose wisely when looking for someone to advertise on your site.

The Saga continues...

Meta Tags

Using Meta Tags is important for circulation of your site. I did post some things regarding this subject a couple of weeks ago, but a few things were missing.

1. When you list your Meta Information, use this format for the Decription:
< name="description" content="place your description here"> "Meta name" in place of "name" (no quotes)
Use relevant terms in your description, possibly your title.

2. Use this format for Keywords:
< name="keywords" content="place you keywords here"> (remember "meta name")
(also separate words with a comma)

These are placed somewhere after <"head"> and before < /head >.

You may have to make an adjustment to your < $ BlogMetaData $ > depending on your Blog Publisher.

You may have noticed that I had to replace meta tags with name, this is because these tags are hidden and cannot be saved in compose mode. Which is why some things were missing on the original posts.

I hope this clears things up a little.

POETRY???

Two weeks ago I got an advertisement in my E-mail for new artists to submit Poetry to be published for free. On a lark, I submitted the following:

Working at Home is supposed to be
the wave of the future, you see
But when you try your hand at it
you can tell, 'tis nothing like you were told.
For when the day is done,
Nothing but your soul was sold.

Not too good, huh?

I got a confirmation letter in the snail mail telling me that my "poem" will be published in the next volume of The International Library of Poetry's editon entitled "Eternal Portraits".
They will reserve my copy for only$49.95 (a savings of $20.00) PLUS S&H of $8.00. They will also include a personal information page for a "nominal fee".

Sound too good to be true? NOT IF YOU'RE SELLING BOOKS!!!
This is the type thing you MUST look out for if you are trying to SUCCEED in Working at Home.

If you have run into any similar situations, let me know.(I WILL NOT TRY TO SELL YOU ANYTHING)

I did find a company a while ago that I signed up for but never really used, DynuBasic.com.
They will not HOST your WEBSITE, but they do FORWARD to your Webpage. They do include an E-mail forward also, which does not solve the original problem of having my WEBPAGE OFF AOL. It is a FREE service, but very limited in how well it works.
There are very few free services that will do any better, NONE of which can convert Easy Designer (AOL Property).

Is it a Vendeta???

No it's not, but when you run into propritary IP's it can seem like it. One of the easiest things I can think of is setting up and running your own site, UNTIL you run into AOL, YAHOO,MSN,ETC... They want you to use only their programs, which is fine if all you want to do is PLAY GAMES, READ NEWS, LOOK AT COMICS...

When you want to RUN A BUSINESS, you need LESS. The only thing I need is a CONNECTION to the WEB, I can do everything else myself. I don't need an IP that I have to go through all their pages just to find MY OWN, it just slows everything down.

Even though I pay for AOL (although I can't access the way I want), I use an SBC account to which a friend allows me access. I use Outlook Express for various E-Mail accounts I signed up to for FREE. I have THIS BLOG (also free).

Until all the E-mail accounts cry and become propritary, I intend to keep all the accounts active.
What, you say does this have to do with Working at Home.

EVERYTHING, if you have to PAY for what you DON'T NEED and WASTE TIME going through so many WASTED STEPS to get to your own HOME PAGE...

Is it a Vendeta? Only if you go with the flow, and take the easy way out.

New Experiment HTM to Link:

If you read the past two posts, you know that I DO NOT LIKE AO HELL.
Unfortunately, My Home Page was built using Easy Designer on AOL. I did save all pages and settings to my computer as HTM files. The problem I'm having is converting those files to something that can be viewed from the Blog without having to link through AOL hometown.
I can bring the HTM file up from my computer, which in turn links to the web, as my HTM file.
Now I need to find a way to store the files on the web or within the Blog so it can be accessed, without having to buy a domain.
I'm not sure this is possible, but I will let you know how successful I am.

Any suggestions will be appreciated.
ps. the link still works thru ao hell for now.

A New Dawn brings a New Day...
Yesterday I was upset about my modem being so slow, I haven't resolved the problems with the IP's yet, but I found a program on http://majorgeeks.com which is free.
It did speed up the response I get on my computer, but it is still governed by your connection speed on the IP. You WILL NOT get more than they send, but you WILL get fewer disconnects and better response and download time with a FREE program I found.
It is TCP Optimizer, you just have to look around for it. It runs in the background, and doesn't show up in your installed program list, so if you don't like it you have to manually uninstall.
It has helped me, but there are plenty of other shareware and freeware programs you can find to help with whatever problem you may have.

Hope this helps... Good Luck!

Problems with your computer can always creep up...
I spent most of the day trying to improve modem speed. I use Internet Explorer with the dial-up that is included in the Windows XP package. That is all well and good when the IP you use works, but when AO Hell changed their propriatary dial-up protocol last month (I used it without loading AO Hell on my computer) it won't accept my login code even though I pay for their service on my wife's computer.
NOW I use dial-up from an account I have with Yahoo, (used to be 56k) and the best I can get is 24k. Usually, it connects at 19.2k.
The reason is that ALL of the IP's are pushing Broadband...
I wouldn't need Broadband if they would keep their service at 56k, which is what I PAY FOR!!!
I may change the name of this Blog to I HATE AO HELL & YAHOO!
I may add more to the hate list soon...
Broadband, DSL, Cable, are find if you need them, but NOT for $29.99 ABOVE the $29.99 I ALREADY PAY FOR ACCESS TO THEIR SERVICE...
I hope some other people are as angry as I am...

Good Luck! (me too)

Today is going to be a good day. How do I know?
Because, I Work at Home, set my own hours, enjoy working on computers, and get my ideas across to name a few. I like helping others trying to succeed Working on the Internet.
When things go right, you can actually measure your success. (No, I'm not going to mention failure, because even then you learn something).
Every day has it's challenges, which is a good thing, it makes life interesting. Whether you are just following up on leads or generating new ones, there is always something new on the desk.
Try to Challenge Yourself Every Day, and you can make them ALL Good Days.
Good Luck!

"There are just so many things to think of and do all the time, maybe I should just give up".
That IS NOT a good way to begin a day of Working at Home!!!
Too many times we become impatient when things aren't going quickly enough. It is easy to fall into a "give up" attitude. Sometimes things just don't move fast enough, we don't see the results we expect.
I think ATTITUDE and CONFIDENCE are very high on the list when you are SELF EMPLOYED. Patience is way up there too, especially when you are just starting ANY Business.
Little things going your way... people responding to ads, getting comments and suggestions, getting clicks and views... You know what you are looking for, is good for any Business Person.
Good responses help in keeping a good ATTITUDE, and DOES bolster CONFIDENCE.
Aim for a way to generate the RESPONSES you are seeking. Use Ads and other forms of promoting you BUSINESS. The only thing I WOULD NOT try is Bulk E-mail... It turns me off and I'm sure it would turn your customers off as well.
I have seen so many Pop-up and Banner ads, that I tend to ignore them. If people are interested in what you are saying, you can use more discrete Text or Picture ads to get your product noticed.

Boost My Attitude and Confidence by responding with any of the many options available...

The Main thing I have to work on is Spreading the word... I have kept a record of comments, E-mail subscriptions, RSS feeds etc. but I think some type of Refer Your Friends link may be a good addition to the sidebar. Even though there is a Link to Post and E-mail Post at the end of each installment.
Word of Mouth is very important. Being referred by a Friend will add a lot of credibility to your site and may lead to browsing by potential customers. That could potentially lead to additional SALES.
That is the whole point of Working for Yourself, Making Money at Home!!!

Please use any of the options available to comment or E-mail to a Friend...

One thing I found out while setting up the last 3 posts is: When you save things as Draft, make sure you do it in order that you want to publish... or it will be published in the order it was saved.
